This is my favorite photograph from 2016. I love black and white photos of New York City, it can be anything from cityscapes to skyline shots to street photography. But this photo stands out for so many reasons. I love how the skyline fades into the sky and how the Empire State Building and a few other buildings stand out while the rest of the city fades in the background. Usually when I’m out photographing I can see the photograph in my head of how I want it to look, but this photograph took me by surprise. I wasn’t sure what to do it with it, but when I made it black and white everything came together of what I wanted to do. It reminds me of an old photograph of Manhattan.
Lesson learned: You can’t always predict the way you see a photograph sometimes you have to just go with it.
